Healthy Hot Dog Recipe

Hey guys, hot dogs are a common treat we all like to enjoy during the summer especially at BBQs, lazy days, etc. While hot dogs are a tasty treat to have, it is unhealthy to eat it often as it contains too much sodium that can be damaging to your cholesterol. However, do not fear, here is a recipe for a healthy hot dog that have about half the amount of sodium of a regular hot dog, while tasting delicious and unique.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1-pound lean ground pork
  • 1-pound lean ground turkey
  • 2 large egg whites, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 4 teaspoons ground dry mustard
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground mace
  • 1 teaspoon ground sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Grind the oats in a processor until fine
  2. Lace the ground pork and turkey in the processor
  3. Continue to process until a paste is formed
  4. Cook in a small skillet or heat in the microwave until thoroughly cooked
