5 Ways to Keep Yourself Motivated

It's so easy to skip your workout when your bed is WAAAAAY to comfy or you are too exhausted from a long day at work, isn't it?

Here are 5 ways to keep yourself motivated, when you want to give in to your excuses:

1.       Get Your Priorities Straight

Stop procrastinating, and telling yourself that you’re doing it tomorrow. Rather that bending and breaking your weight-loss plans because of your life, whether it be time to work out or, time to cook something a little healthier than your usual quick fixes, schedule time in your life NOW.


2.       Reward yourself along the way

By celebrating the small achievements, you are gaining something through your journey. This provides motivational reinforcements, when you feel like giving up.  However, don't use food as a reward! (why do we reward ourselves with treats like our pets?!?)  Instead, book a massage, mani or a with a new pair of kicks!


3.       Select the Right Motivation

Rather than motivating yourself with a picture of just another skinny model stuck to your mirror, grab that piece of clothing in your closet that you’ve always wanted to wear, but never had the confidence to. By doing so, you are setting a realistic goal, as the piece of clothing is around your current size, not requiring a drastic change. Whereas, if you used the models as motivation, rather than motivate you, it may have the opposite effect on you, as it may seem too drastic a change.


4.       Set Realistic Expectations

Rather than beginning with high expectations, think smaller, and work on keeping it off. This is where some people go wrong, as their expectations are two high, they get easily unmotivated when they do not reach them. As a result, they gain back the pounds that they did lose due to lack of motivation. Remember, expect progress not perfection.


5.       Why do you exercise really?

Think about the reason you want to lose weight. Not the, I want to fit in my old jeans reason, but the I want to feel more confident reason. It is only after you figure out what you are fighting for, that you can fight effectively. Find the real reason you want to lose weight and train yourself to remember it during the hard times.
